Myrtle was born in 1927. She passed away in 2016.
Myrtle Louise Jones, age 89, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Altus, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 3, 2016, at The Lakes Care Center, in Oklahoma City.
She was born on February 8, 1927, in Altus, Oklahoma to Edgar A. and Laura Anna (Parker) Barton. She graduated from Altus High School in 1946. She worked at Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator before she married Bobby Spears Jones on April 24, 1946. They had two children and were married for fifty-six years, before his death on September 1, 2004. Myrtle served in PTA and was a PTA president and a scout leader. She was a member of the Gladiola Flower Club where she won many awards for her floral arrangements. She helped with the Jackson County Election Board preparing and counting and overseeing ballots. She was an active member of the Republican Women’s Group, in Altus. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Altus for most of her life and was there to celebrate its 100th birthday in 2007. She was involved in many church activities and women’s groups. She belonged to the Silver Bells line dance group and enjoyed going places to dance. She enjoyed her church and dance friends very much. She was kind and generous and had a nice smile.
Myrtle liked working in the yard and having pretty shrubs and flowers, especially roses. She enjoyed watering and feeding birds and had a bird collection. She loved animals, even animals in the woods. She loved her dogs and especially her cats. She was a good cook and her family remembers and always requested her great chicken fried steak and she also made great cakes and desserts. She loved to decorate and would decorate her house for every occasion and everyone really enjoyed her Christmas decorations. She spent her life chauffeuring, helping and caring for her family.
Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Laura Barton; her husband Bobby Jones and sister Thelma Goff, in 2014. She is survived by her daughter Shirley Updegraff of Oklahoma City; her son, Gary Jones and wife Debbie of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Holly Day and husband Dale and great grandchildren, Derek and Darby Day of Yukon, Oklahoma; sister, Lorene Franson and husband Guy of Littleton, Colorado; nieces and nephews, Patricia Blackmon, H. Bob Jones and Karen Knox of Altus, Oklahoma, Patrick Jones and wife Barbara of Belleview, Nebraska, Cathy Carr and Carl Franson of Littleton, Colorado, Eric Franson and wife Tammy of Ft. Worth, Texas, Amy Franson of Dallas, Texas, Nancy Watkins and husband Darrel of Glendale, Arizona, and Jim Phillips and wife Wanda of Phoenix, Arizona.
Graveside services for Myrtle Louise Jones will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at the Altus City Cemetery with Jim Brown officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, of Altus
