George was born in 1834. George and his wife, Elizabeth, migrated to Australia in 1858 aboard the "Champion of the Seas". During the voyage, their first child, Margaret Annie, was born at sea. He ran a drapery shop in Urana for some time until he lost his premisis when the adjacent Globe hotel burned down. Shortly after this he broke his arm and, despite medical care, it became necessary to amputate it. Soon after this his wife died. George passed away in 1915. [1] He was survived by a family of four sons and one daughter, viz., Messrs. W. E. Barwick (Boree Creek), George and Thomas (of Urana), Alfred (Sydney), and Mrs. Dugan (Canowindra), whilst one daughter predeceased him. [2]
