Guy Harold Basford was born on January 9, 1883, in Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, United States to parents Sebastian Brainerd Basford and his second wife Sarah Buzzell. [1] Harry's father died on April 15, 1899 at the age of 75, when Harold was 6 years old. His mother followed on October 22, 1913, at the age of 69. Guy Harold was 30.
Years 1904 - 1910
On December 22, 1904, he married Alice M. Huss, who resided a few miles south of Guthrie, Logan County, Oklahoma, United States. [2][3] After marriage they moved to Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota where Guy Harold worked as a train conductor. I am assuming they met through his work. In 1910, they lived in Aberdeen with their 3 children: Alice (age 4), Marvin Lovelle (age 2), and Mildred (age 0). [4]
Year 1920
In 1920, Guy Harold married Tulla Vera Anderson in Grundy County, Illinois. [5] To my knowledge there were no children of this union. I am unsure of what happened to Tulla because in the U.S. Census of that same year, Guy was married to Teckla Magaretha Jarelius. In the 1920 census Guy and Teckla were living in the 3rd Ward of Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas. They had 2 children: Erma (age 5) and Joseph (age 3). [6] Here, Guy worked as a yard clerk for the railroad.
Notes about his wife/wives
"Having such a strange name, I was able to find a Teckla Magaretha Nilssan/Jarelius born on 28 Apr 1898 to parents Carl Jarelius and Agnes Augusta Nilssan." [7]
"Again, I do not know what happened to Teckla. It is quite possible that Tulla Anderson and this Teckla are the same person."
Year 1925
On February 2, 1925, Guy Harold married Helen Lorian Cunningham, widow of John Chandler. [8] To my knowledge there were no children of this union. Harry and Helen were married married for roughly a year and a half before Helen passed away.
The death of Helen must have hit him because he did not remarry for over 12 years.
Years 1936 - 1940
On October 29, 1936, Guy Harold Basford married Gladys Mae Stapp in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. [9] In 1940, Guy Harold and Gladys lived in Marlborough, Jackson County, Missouri. Harry worked as a watch man. [10]
Death
By June 25, 1966, Harry and Gladys lived in or near Laguna Beach, Orange County, California. Harry passed away on June 25, 1966. [11][12] Harry was buried in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. [13]
