Paola Basile (also seen spelled Vasili and Vasile) is born around 1782 in Corleone, based on her age in 1811, and at her death. She is the daughter of Martino Vasili and Girolama Sabbatino.
Paola marries Antonino Grizzaffi on 24 September 1797. Her parents have died by this time. Based on her age in 1811, Paola is fifteen when she marries.[1]
Paola and Antonino have twelve known children: Francesca (1798), Girolama (1800), two sons named Vincenzo (1802 and c. 1811), Giuseppe (c. 1804), Martino (1807), the first daughter named Carmela (1809), two sons named Liborio (1812 and 1815), twins Carmela and Silvestre (1818), and Bernardo (1822).
Francesca is born 10 October 1798 and baptized the next day, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are U.I.D. Giovanni and Girolama Vasili, son and mother.
Girolama is born and baptized 15 February 1800. Her godparents are Domenico and Domenica di Trapani, a married couple.
The first son named Vincenzo, after his paternal grandfather, is born and baptized 10 May 1802. His godparents are Bernardo and Bernarda Maida, a married couple.
Giuseppe is born around 1804, based on his ages in 1811 and at his death.
Martino is born and baptized on 5 March 1807. His godparents are Maestro Vincenzo and Angela Graviano, a married couple.
The first daughter named Carmela is born 13 September 1809 and baptized the next day. Her godparents are Don Giovanni and Donna Marianna Vasili, a married couple.
In 1811 Paola, 29 (b. 1782), Antonino , 47 (b. 1764), and their children Francesca, 13 (b. 1798), Girolama, 12 (b. 1799), Vincenzo, 9 (b. 1802), Giuseppe, 7 (b. 1804), Martino, 5 (he is 4), and Carmela, 2 (b. 13 Sep 1809), live on the road that leads from the strada di Oliva to San Michaele Arcangelo (strada che dirizze al Michele).
Carmela is presumed to have died between the 1811 stato delle anime, and when the twins are born in 1818.
Vincenzo dies on 21 October 1811 at nine years of age.
The second son named Vincenzo is presumed to have been born soon after his brother's death in 1811.
The first son named Liborio is born and baptized on 12 December 1812. His godparents are Bernardo and Benedetta Terrusa, a married couple.
Paola's unmarried brother, Silvestre, dies suddenly at age 34 (b. 1780) on 29 April 1814.
Liborio dies on 13 October 1815 at two years and ten months of age.
The second son named Liborio is born and baptized a month later, on 17 November 1815. His godparents are his brother and sister, Vincenzo and Girolama.
Liborio dies on 12 May 1817, a year and a half old.
Twins Carmela and Silvestre are born and baptized 16 November 1818. Carmela's godparents are Vincenzo and Maria Grizzaffi, son and mother. Silvestre's godparents are his own brother and sister, Vincenzo and Francesca Grizzaffi.
Silvestre dies on 25 September 1821, before his third birthday.
Bernardo is born and baptized on 27 September 1822. His godparents are Gaetano Vasili and Girolama Grizzaffi, who are not married. Paola's name is written as Vasili in the second Liborio (1815), Carmela, and Bernardo's baptismal records.
Francesca marries Leonardo Cammarata on 17 June 1827. Her parents are both living.
Deaths of Paola and Antonino
Paola dies at age 50 (b. 1782) on 14 February 1832. Antonino, who is called Giuseppe in this record, survives her.[2]
Antonino dies at age 70 (b. 1765) on 27 February 1835.
Martino marries Maria Mancuso on 27 November 1835. Paola and Antonino have both passed away by this time.
Vincenzo marries Elisabetta Terranova on 14 August 1836.
Carmela marries Matteo Dragna on 4 February 1838.
Girolama marries two months later to a widower, Bernardo Governali, on 26 April.
Vincenzo dies, reportedly at age 48 (he is 42 or younger) on 2 August 1853. His wife, Elisabetta, survives him.
Carmela dies two months later at age 34, on 8 October 1853. Her husband, Matteo, survives her.
Francesca dies at age 68 (b. 1790) on 4 February 1858. She is survived by her husband, Leonardo.
Bernardo marries Giuseppa Tortorici on 20 May 1860.
Martino dies at age 54 (reportedly 51) on 24 December 1861. He is survived by his wife, Maria.
Giuseppe dies at age 60 (b. 1804) on 4 September 1864. He is unmarried.
Girolama dies, a widow, at age 71 on 20 April 1871.
Bernardo dies, reportedly at age 53 (he is almost 58) on 28 July 1880. His wife, Giuseppa, survives him.
