Biography
According to her marriage entry, she was born in Criquetot-l'Esneval Normandy, the daughter of Etienne Basire and Susanne le Seigneur his wife, probably about 1660.
She married the twice-widowed Levy Lamechin in the French Church Threadneedle Street London on 6 May 1693.[1]
Marie and Levi Lenchen baptised a son in the French Church Threadneedle Street London:
- Jaques Lenchin baptised 24 November 1695.[2]
She died in Bethnal Green and was buried in St Dunstan & All Saints Churchyard Stepney on 6 June 1718.[3]
Research Notes
The only indications we have for the age of Marie is the birth of a child in 1695 and her marriage in 1693. Women rarely had children after the age of 45 and were usually over 21 when married. Thus it is likely that Marie would have been born between 1695-45=1650 and 1693-21=1672. Taking into consideration that she only had one child, then a date earlier in the range would be more likely (say 1660 +/- 5 years).
