Deed Book 4, page 175 : Jan 30, 1748 -- proved June Court, 1749 -- Henry Summerland of Craven County, N.C., planter, for L100, "lawful money of the old Tenner of North Carolina," deeds to THOMAS BASS of same county and Province, Cordwainer, "a certain Plantation, Tract or Parcel of Land containing Two Hundred acres of Land Cituate in Craven County and Between Nuce River and Contentnea Creek know by the name of the High Hills and joyning John Philips Land or Wheat's old field, Beginning at a Red Oak and Runs So So 65 Wt 178 po to Red Oak then No 25Wt 178 po to a Hickory then No 65 E 178 po to a White Oak then to the Beginning," the same granted to the said Henry Summerland by patent of 18 Nov 1738. Witnesses: John Varran and John Philips


Book 9 & 10, page 212 : March 10, 1755 -- proved at Craven Court, 1756 -- THOMAS BASS and SOPHIA BASS, his wife, of Craven County, N. C., deed to William Jordan of same county, for L45 current money of Virginia, 200 acres of land in Craven County granted to Henry Summerland 18 Nov. 1738, beginning at a red oak and runs south 65 west 178 poles to a red oak, etc. "The said land lies on the side of Bear Pocoson, known by the name of the High Hills, being the land and plantation the said THOMAS BASS now lives on." (Signed:) THOMAS (E) BASS (Seal) SOFIAH (I) Bass. Witnesses: Jacob Blount, William Ray and William (x) Jordan, Jr. Certificate of privy examination of SOPHIA BASS is recorded.

This page shows a source of a "family Bible." The only family Bible I am aware of that mentions Thomas Bass is a copy of a transcription made from a photostat of the Bible record of the Nettles Family of the Pee Dee area supplied by the Darlington County Historical Commission. And the only mention of Thomas Bass is in reference to his daughter, Lucy.
