The 1716 will of her father, John Bass, provided that Sarah Thayer and her sister Mary Copeland were each to get an acre of Salt Meadow during their natural life and, after their decease, their children were to receive five pounds to be distributed equally.[18]

Sarah died August 19, 1751 in Braintree. She was buried in the Elm Street Cemetery in that town. Her gravestone reads: "Here lyes ye body of Mrs. Sarah Thayer wife to Mr. Ephraim Thayer aged 79 years & 5 months Dec'd August the 19 1751 Her offspring was in number 170"[19][2] (The reference to her offspring presumably refers to the number of her offspring alive at her time of death, which given her 14 children, all of whom themselves had children, is plausible.)
