Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
William Bass was a North Carolina colonist.

William was born about 1748 in North Carolina. He was the son of Richard Bass and Elizabeth Unknown. He passed away on April 19, 1802 in Sampson County, North Carolina.[citation needed]

William is named in the will of his father, Richard Bass, dated 9 May 1780, Duplin County, North Carolina. Inventory presented and proved in court by Andrew Bass, Exec., January Court 1781.[1][2][3] He was left four pounds and was one of the named executors.

A William Bass is listed on the 1790 census in Sampson County, North Carolina with 2 males age 16 & over, 3 males under 16 and 4 females.[4]

William Bays [Bass] is listed on the 1800 census in Fayetteville, Sampson County, North Carolina. In his household are:[5]

  • 1 male under 10
  • 1 male 16-25
  • 1 male 45 & over
  • 1 female under 10
  • 1 female 10-15
  • 2 female 16-25
  • 1 female 45 & over

Note the William Bass appearing on census records 1810 and following in Sampson County, North Carolina is not this William Bass -- he is too young. Perhaps he was this William's son who also appears near this William Bays [Bass] on the 1800 census.

William was born in 1748. He passed away in 1802.
