Andrew Bass was a North Carolina colonist.

Andrew was born about 1756 in Johnston County, North Carolina (became Dobbs County in 1758). He was the son of Richard Bass and Sarah McKinnie. He passed away in November 1791 in Wayne County, North Carolina.

In 1790 Andrew Bass is listed on the Wayne County North Carolina Census with one male age 16 and over (Andrew), one male under age 16 (Uriah), and five females.[1]

Land Transactions

  • Deed Book 3, page 214:
    • March 9, 1786 – proved April, 1786 – Andrew Bass, Jr., of Wayne County, "for and in consideration of the love and affection that I have and bear to my children that is now born, that is to say Elizabeth and Anne, also all other of my children that shall hereafter be born and borne to me by my present wife Christian Bass," "the following lands, Negroes and household goods, to them, their heirs and assigns": 232 acres "where I now live"; one tract "my father bought of George Taylor" on the lower side of Miery Branch; part of the tract "my father" bought of John Carraway, 100 acres on the upper side of said branch, and part of tract my father bought of Dr. Andrew Bass; also land on the upper side of Long Marsh either taken up or purchased by my father, and Negroes to my father, Richard Bass." Witnesses: Andrew Bass, Sr., and William (x) Johnston.[2]

Death & Legacy

Andrew died about November 1791 in Wayne County, North Carolina. On 13 April 1792 John Smith was appointed guardian of the minor orphans of Andrew: Eliza, Anna, Uriah, Sarah, & A. Thomas Bass.[3] Also in the probate file can be found inventories, sale of assets and other documents related to the settlement of the estate.
