Edward Bass was born on 25 Sep 1895 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas. He was the son of Frank Bass (1874–Deceased) and Maggie or Madge Bass (1876–Deceased).
The 1900 Census[1] shows him at age 3 in the home of his parents in Justice Precinct 2, Falls County, Texas.
The 1910 Census[2] shows him at age 13 in the home of his parents in Justice Precinct 3, Ellis County, Texas.
Private Edward Bass served in the United States Army in World War I Service started: 8 Aug 1918 Unit(s): Company B, 434 Reserve Labor Battalion Service ended: 7 Mar 1919
His World War I Draft Registration Card,[3] signed on 5 Jun 1917, shows that he is married, and has a mother, two sisters, and a brother to support.
He served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army in World War I. He was inducted on 8 Aug 1918 at Ennis, Texas. Edward served with the 17th Company, 5th Battalion, 165th Depot Brigade and the 434th Reserve Labor Battalion. He was honorably discharged on 7 Mar 1919 to Porter, Oklahoma. [4][5]
He married second to Estella Talton on 4 Oct 1924 in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma.[6] Their child:
The 1930 Census[7] shows him at age 32 with his wife in Shannon Township, Wagoner County, Oklahoma.
The 1940 Census[8] shows him at age 44 with his wife and one daughter in Severs Township, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma.
His World War II Draft Registration Card,[9] signed 25 Apr 1942, shows his next of kin is his wife, Stella Bass of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He is currently unemployed.
The 1950 Census[10] shows him at age 55 with his wife and daughter in Okmulgee, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma.
On 10 Sep 1972, the newspaper reported that Edward was admitted to Okmulgee Memorial Hospital.[11] He died there on 11 Sep 1972,[12][13] and is buried at Mount Zion Cemetery in Okmulgee, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. [14] Excerpted from his obituary: [15]
"Edward Bass of 709 East Chicago died Monday morning in the local hospital. He was born in Texas Sept. 25, 1895 and moved to Okmulgee years ago. He was a prosperous farmer until ill health forced his retirement...
Survivors include Mrs. Estella Bass, of the home, a daughter, Miss Edna Bass, of the home, a sister, Mrs. Stella Wallace, Ennis, Tex., one brother, Clarence Bass, Chandler, Ariz., and a grandson, Otis Leron Jones, of the home." [15]
This "Card of Thanks" was published by the family on 8 Oct 1972: [16]
"The family of the late Edward Bass wishes to express our sincere thanks to all our friends and neighbors for the flowers, cards, telegrams, and food during our moment of sorrow. And special thanks to Rev J. B. Brown and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 103. Mrs. Estella Bass and Family." [16]
