Biography

Aline (Basset) Talbot was a member of aristocracy in England.

Birth and Parentage

Aline was the daughter of Alan Basset and Aline de Gai.[1][2][3] Her birth date is uncertain.

Marriages and Children

Aline married twice. Her first husband was Drew de Montagu, son of William de Montagu, Sheriff of Somersetshire & Dorsetshire, Custodian of Sherborne Castle, Justiciar and Isabel, and took place before 1213.[4][5][2][3] They had at least one child:

Dreux de Montagu died by 1217, when a charter refers to Aline as formerly his wife.[5]

Between 1219 and 1224 (when a fine was paid for the marriage being without royal licence) Aline married Richard Talbot, son of Gilbert Talbot.[6][7][2][8] They probably had at least one child:

  • Gilbert[6] The evidence for his being a son of Richard Talbot and Aline Basset appears to be indirect.[7][8]

Research Notes

Previously-shown Son, Richard

Another son has previously been shown on WikiTree for Aline Basset and Richard Talbot: Richard Talbot. There appears to be no source for this relationship, and the sources given in his profile make it clear that he was a member of the branch of the Talbot family associated with Malahide, Ireland. He has therefore been detached.

Following discussion in G2G, Richard Talbot is no longer shown as a child of Aline Basset and her second husband Richard Talbot. Research notes have been added to relevant profiles.

I can find no source for Richard Talbot being a son of Aline and her second husband. Only Gilbert is listed as a son in the Complete Peerage and other sources I have looked at. Should he be detached? I have asked a question in G2G.

Aline is 27 degrees from Cari Starosta, 18 degrees from Marie-Antoinette d'Autriche and 11 degrees from Henry VIII of England on our single family tree. Login to find your connection.
