Married Nancy Emily Gillespie (1855-1930) on 1 Oct 1874[1]

Samuel Chipman Bassett was born in Athens County, Ohio, June 13, 1847, and departed this life November 26, 1920, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 13 days.

Mr. Bassett moved to Warren County, Iowa, with his parents in the fall of 1852, where he spent the greater part of his life. He was united in marriage with Nancy E. Gillaspie October 1, 1874. To this union were born four children: Mrs. Lulu M. Taylor, of Ellis, Kansas; David L. Bassett, of Luther, Ia.; and Mrs. Ada A. Orman, who resides near Ottumwa, Iowa. Robert R., the youngest child, was claimed by death at the early age of seven years. Mr. Bassett united with the Baptist church at Kirksville, Mo., at the age of seventeen. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett moved to Boone County in 1900, where they lived until last spring when, on account of failing health and declining years, they found it necessary to leave their own home. They have 'since made their home with their son David.

The deceased leaves his wife, one son, two daughters, three brothers, two sisters and eight grandchildren, together with a host of friends and neighbors who will miss his earthly presence.

The body was brought to Pleasantville Monday and taken to the W. J. Gillaspie home where short funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. Barr. Interment was in the Pleasantville cemetery.
