Francis was born before 1785. He was baptised on the 11 September 1785 in St Madern Church of England, Madron, Cornwall, England.[1] He is the son of William Bassett.

Francis Bassett was convicted of sheep stealing with his brother-in-law William (the younger), and his father-in-law William Snr.[2]
