Biography

Birth

Edith Mae Batchelor was the firstborn child of her parents and born on August 3, 1924, in Nash County, North Carolina[1] [2] [3], her father, Otis Batchelor was 22, and her mother, Lillie Mae Manning was 19.

Siblings

Edith was a first born child, and had four younger siblings:

  • Georgia Christine Batchelor (b. 20 Nov 1926 - d. 23 May 1996)[4]
  • Evelyn Batchelor (b. 3 Mar 1930 - d. 2 Nov 2017) [5]
  • Wanda Delaine Batchelor (b. 7 Feb 1934 - d. 9 Jan 1999)[6]
  • Otis Lee Batchelor, Jr. (b. 21 Sep 1948 -LIVING)[7]

Marriage to JB High

Edith married James Bernice High on February 17, 1946, in her hometown.[10]

They were likely introduced through the O'Neal family that had married into the Batchelor family. Edith's husband JB was raised by the O'Neal family.

JB and Edith had two children during their marriage.

Death & Burial

Edith was diagnosed from childhood with Rheumatic heart disease and three months prior to her death with heart arrhythmia, and was placed on a salt restricted diet due to high blood pressure.

She preceded her husband, mother, father, and all her siblings in death, passing away on October 31, 1979, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, at the age of 55, and was buried in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.[13] [14]
