Maria came to Western Australia with her parents on the Medina, arriving on 6 July 1830.[1]
She married Alexander Smith on 23 December 1843 in Fremantle.[2][3] They did not have any children.
Alexander died in 1849 and Maria subsequently married Robert Bell on 24 April 1850 at Upper Swan.[4] They had three children.

I regret to report the death of Mrs. R. Bell, of the Greenough an old settler, very highly esteemed and respected by all who knew her. Her kind, genial manners, made her a universal favorite, and although, purely domesticated woman, who rarely left her home, will be missed by nearly all on the Greenough.[5]
