Biography

Note: Jacob Bateman appears on paper only as a person referenced, no records or proofs have been found of the man himself.

The information on this page is derived from three sources:

1. The obituary of Mary (Bauer) Bateman

2. The marriage record of Anna G. (Bateman) Marsh

3. The marriage record of Charles William Bateman

Oral history from other family members all align with the supposition that there was a Jacob Bateman, but no information about him has been conveyed. Other family members investigating Jacob have not been successful.

Searches for Jacob and variants of his name have been performed through the Ancestry.com interface for census data and their other collections. The search feature there is limited, so more searches need to be performed via a more database-like tool.

Fultonhistory.com has been searched for many variants of his name and names of all family members (wife and kids).

Investigation into the Batemans residing in Paris township, NY during the same time period have yeilded no Jacob (first or middle).

Searches have also been made for Mary with her kids but without Jacob, with no success.

It is important to understand that Mary (Bauer) Bateman is also absent from census and other records at Ancestry for the time period 1876-1894, the years that encompass her relationship with Jacob and the births of her children.

Name: Jacob Bateman. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Born - in or before 1859 This date is merely a GUESS.

Mary (Bauer) Bateman was born in 1859, so it is most likely that Jacob was the same age or older than her.

The following dates are extrapolated from the information in Mary's 1929 obituary:

Marriage 1877 ? "...to whom she was married 52 years ago...".

Death 1885 ? "...died 44 years ago."

The marriage and death dates calculated from Mary's obituary have a timespan of 8 years. This 8-year timespan matches data Mary reported in a census, where she stated "8" for the field "Years Married".
