**** NLH Note: Records show an Edwin H Bateman of Batley, as KIA in WWI in 1918. Several trees on Ancestry, My Heritage and FamilySearch assign this death to our Edwin Henry Bateman (b. 1859) but this is almost certainly his nephew Edwin Henry Bateman born in Batley 3Q 1895 - our Edwin would have been 59 years old in 1918 - way too old to be a private fighting in the trenches.
