Biography

When Thomas Fleming Bates was born on November 1, 1741,[1] in Goochland, Virginia, his father, Fleming Bates, was 27 and his mother, Sarah Jordon Bates, was 26. He married Caroline Matilda Woodson on August 8, 1771, in Henrico County, Virginia. They had 13 children in 25 years. He died on May 6, 1805, in his hometown, at the age of 63, and was buried in Virginia.

He served with the militia at the Siege of Yorktown. Cornwallis used his home as headquarters.[2][3]

Death

Thomas Fleming Bates died on May 6, 1805, in Goochland, Virginia, when he was 63 years old.

He was buried in Arlington Cemetery.[4]
