Nancy, Thanks for including information for the "Scottish" John Bunch. I believe he is the one with the family that was originally from Flanders that "our" John Bunch I, mentions. In Ancestry's Documenting Obama's Maternal....they mention him in the text. Also look at Appendix B. Maybe some one could create his profile so that the two John Bunch's can be finally cleared up & Scottish references can be removed from ours. Lastly - please be careful using any associations with the trees at FamilySearch. I looked and it appears that if your name is Bunch you're part of our family. It's a jumbled up mess.

Hey Lucy.

Oh my gosh!!! They have me as a Bunch?? lol. Things on that site are getting wild. I have found several profiles that are parts of others. I have not been on here for awhile and just trying to get my feet a little wet instead of completely jumping back in but I ran into a problem today with some other profiles that have become convulated. So, another mess to attack.

There's a good chance she was married to (legal or common) to Paul Bunch, only.

See page 19 of the Ancestry doc on Punch-51 uploaded by Nancy. It says:

On 15 March 1763, Gideon Bunch, planter, of Berkeley County, South Carolina, sold Montfort Eelbeck, gentleman, “565 acres [in Halifax County] of which 265 acres had been patented to Paul Bunch on 1 Jan[uary] 1725, the remaining acreage having been purchased by Paul Bunch from Thomas Wilkins, on the south side of Roanoke River, joining Quankey Pocoson, Sims, Gideon Gibson, Burgess, Quankey Creek,” etc.91

91 Stephen E. Bradley Jr., The Deeds of Halifax County, North Carolina, 1758–1771 (South Boston, Virginia: by the author, 1989), page 43. William Bunch and Temperance Bunch were among the witnesses.

I have disconnected the three husbands for now and will try to find the correct man. I also removed the source from ancestry that was someone's family line; however, there was not anything on it to connect Mary Temperance Bates. The above source that is also mentioned is not a reliable source. It is for a private person and is not any help if we can not see the source. This entire profile needs to be sourced. Her father as well, since I have already seen two profiles that had two different men for her father.
