Biography

Herbert was Baptised on 16 July 1882 in the Anglican Church of "Great Woolaston and Middletown", Shropshire.

In the 1891 Census he is shown as living in the School house, village of Fiskerton (just outside Lincoln) where his father and Mother are the Schoolmaster and Schoolmistress respectively. He is listed as a "Scholar".

In the 1901 Census, he is living with the family in the School House, Little Aston, Shenstone, Lichfield. Father George is listed as "Elementary School Master" whilst Herbert is a "Pupil Teacher".

In 1904 he marries Mabel Mary A Burridge in Berkhamstead. The must have met in Little Aston as in 1901 she is listed as living there in "Keepers Lodge" with her family where her Father is a Game keeper.

In 1911 Herbert and his Family which now includes Daughters Doroth L (6) and Marjorie M (5) are living in 65 Banville Road, Washwood Heath, Birmingham. Herbert is "Teacher Primary (Certificated)" and his employers are the Birmingham Education Committee.

On 26 Sep 1917 (Aged 35) Herbert "Died of Wounds" in Flanders. He was serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery - 223rd Siege Battery. His Rank is listed as Acting Bombadier (Temporary Corporal), Service No: 142104. He is buried in the NINE ELMS BRITISH CEMETERY, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Grave Ref: II A 11.
