William Bateson is Notable.

Biography

William Bateson was a British biologist. He was the first person to use the term "genetics" to describe the study of heredity. He popularized the ideas of Gregor Mendel.[1]

He was born on 8 August 1861[2] in Whitby, Yorkshire, England.[3][4][5] He was the son of William Henry and Anna Bateson.[6] He was baptized on 11 September 1861.[7]

He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in June 1894. He won their Darwin Medal in 1904 and their Royal Medal in 1920.[8] He founded the Genetics Society in 1919.[9]

William died on 8 February 1926 in Merton, London, England.[10]
