Lily trained as a nurse, completing three years training at Townleys Hospital in Bolton.
When Lily was 23 she married William [Will] Brown on 10 April 1907 in St George's Congregational Church, Bolton, Lancashire.[2]

On 18 December 1925 William, Lily and the three children: William, Marion & Alan, sailed from Southampton England on board the ship Ruahine, bound for Wellington New Zealand. The ship Ruahine (official no. 124582) was mastered by E T Smith and belonged to the Steamship line: The New Zealand Shipping company Ltd. (Registered tonnage" 6770. Passengers on board: 597.)
She died at the age of 87 on 27 April 1971 in the Home of Compassion. Wanganui, New Zealand. She was a widow. [3]
She was buried on 29 April 1971 in Wanganui. Area Block C, Division 7, Plot 400.

From her letter dated Oct 11, 1961.
"I left Westhoughton in 1904 to become or at least to begin my training as a Nurse to join a hospital, and after my training I travelled quite a bit. I also lived in Burnley for a time, as well as Manchester and Liverpool, and many other places".
From her letter dated Nov 29, 1958,
"I was born in Leyland, coming to Westhoughton when I was about ten years old. I am a trained nurse, doing my three years training at Townleys Hospital, Bolton afterwards private nursing".
