In the 1901 Census she is living with the family at: 3 White Ash, Birtle-cum-bamford, Heywood, Lancashire. Her given age is 20 and her occupation is "Starcher - Bleachworks".

In the March Qtr of 1903 she marries George Smith in Heywood.

In the 1911 Census she is living with Husband George and 3 children at: 29 Waterfold Lane, Heap Bridge, Heywood, Nr Bury, Lancashire. She is listed as Aged 30. Her brother Herbert Walter Bateson is also living with them.

In the 1921 Census Edith is living with Husband George and five children at Withgill Piggeris, Chitheroe, Lancashire. The subdistrict of Whalley. Her age is given as 41 years 1 month, place of birth is Kirkham, Lancashire. Her occupation is given as “Home Duties”.
