Steward's Mate 1st Class Herbert Batiste was Wounded in Action during World War II.
Herbert Batiste was awarded the Purple Heart.
Herbert was born in 1925, the son of Robert Batiste and Celestine Fontenot. [1] He was born into a very large family.
Herbert served on the USS Bryant, and was onboard when the ship was struck by a Japanese suicide plane on April 16, 1945. He was wounded during the attack.
He went on to live a full life and passed away in 2014. He is buried in Houston National Cemetery.[2]
