Neither William or his father or brother Logan were home at the time of the 1901 Census, which recorded mother Elizabeth Batt, 32, living at 23 Webbs Road, where she was head of the house, and a Baker (Branch Shop) and "Employer at home," while her father Charles Keiser, 60, who was at her home at the time of the Census, and may have worked for her, was employed as a Baker/Breadmaker. Elizabeth's son Wilfred, 2, was also in the household[2].

The 1911 Census recorded William Ewart, 16, a Solicitor's Junior Clerk, living with his mother, Elizabeth Batt, 41, and siblings Logon Wynyard, 15, a Learner in Walumating Current Test Room (Electric Meter Works), Wilfred Vernon, 12, a Scholar, and Evelyn May, 6, at Harrow, Wembley, Middlesex[3].

William Ewart Batt enlisted in the British Army on 25 June, 1915, and listed his mother, Sarah Batt, of 85 London Road, Wembley, as "next of kin"[4].

William's mother died on 1 January, 1950 at London, England. Her Will was probated on 18 February, 1950, the beneficiary being her son William Ewart Batt[5].
