Martha was born about 1793 the daughter of Richard Batt and Mary (Williams) Batt, and she was christened on the 20th October 1793 at St Mary and St Edward, Barrow Gurney, Somerset along with (presumably twin) brother Richard, [1]
Martha never married Richard Teast and they were not together when he died as he was living with Charlotte Sayers who inherited his furniture and effects and a sizeable sum of money plus an annuity of £150pa.
On 29 August 1813, Martha, a single woman baptised 2 children, Alenor, female b. 2 July 1811 in Bedminster and Richard, male b.10 August 1813 in Bedminster. Martha lived in Wapping. They were noted to be 'base born' ie illegitimate. [2]
Martha and her son Richard and daughter Eleanor were left an Annuity of £50 each in the Will of Richard Buckle Teast. in 1836 [3]
Martha is found in all census records with daughter Eleanor and claims to be a widow. In 1861 they are living at 11 Prospect Cottages in Clifton and Martha is a Land Owner. Eleanor is a House Proprietor. [4]
Martha died in 1876 at Olveston. Her daughter Eleanor Batt was the executor of her Will. Her Estate was valued initially at under £200 but was resworn with effects under £6000 in July 1879. [5]
