Edward was admitted to Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1571. Under 14s were admitted at that time, and he was probably fairly young as it was over 5 years before he obtained his B.A. in 1576/1577. He became a Fellow of the college in 1579, M.A. in 1580, and B.D. in 1587.[1]
In 1593 he became vicar of Chesterton, Cambridgeshire, being presented by Trinity College who were patrons of the living. He resigned this post only three years later in 1596.[2]
Edward died in 1598 and was buried on 7 March 1597/1598 at St Peter, Birstall, Yorkshire: "Mr Edwarde Batt, Bachelor in Divinitie".[3] His will was proved on 15 July 1600 at York: Battie, Edward, B.D., Okewell, (Pontefract Deanery), Feb 26 40 Eliz., vol 28 folio 171.[4]
