Biography

Julia was born in Dulwich in 1835, daughter of Edward Batten and his wife, Ann Withers. The family lived in Dulwich where Edward earned their living as a wood broker. ^[1][2]

Her father died in 1855 ^[3] and her only sibling, her sister, Emily in 1858. ^[4] Julia continued to live with her mother until the latter's death in 1889. ^[5][6] She continued living on an annuity until her own death in 1917. ^[7] When she died on the 25th of March her estate was valued at £1578 4s 8d. ^[8] Julia was buried at Norwood Cemetery, Lambeth on 31 March. ^[9]
