Biography

Aaron was born in 1870, the son of Barnbas Battersby and Jemima Pope.

Barnabas Battersby was a Contractor at Kakanui in the Waitaki district and owned a freehold property. He moved to Oamaru before 1890.

Aaron was educated at Waitaki Boys High during the 1880's.

He was employed as the Accountant for the Dunback Rabbit Factory and Meat Preserving Works and in 1896 was promoted to Manager. Aaron was also a member and secretary of the Dunback school committee and the Loyal Lodge of Oddfellows.

He married in 1898 to Bethia Jane Mitchell at Waitaki. No children were born during their marriage.

They settled in Dunback later moving to Oamaru where Aaron was employed as a Clerk.

Aaron Battersby passed away suddenly at his home 'Matapuna', Enfield and is buried at Oamaru cemetery.
