Lois Battles was born about 1781 in Bennington, the daughter of Jeremiah Battles, Jr. and Hannah Washburn. She married Jonathan W. Lyon in about 1805 in Bennington, Vermont. Together Jonathan and Lois had 7 children: Roxanna, Lucy, Lenora, Orson, Elmina, George and Alta. Lois passed away in 1839 in DeKalb county, Illinois. Our "DeKalb County Portrait and Biographical Album" states: JONATHAN LYON... was born in 1775, in Shelburne, Vermont. His parents, Simeon Lyon and Martha Bronson Lyon had two children born in Pomfret, CT., and four in Vermont. This Lyon family did not remain long in Vermont, removing to Naples, Ontario county, New York, in about 1780. Elmina Lyon, daughter of Jonathan and Lois {Battles} Lyon, who were natives of Vermont and came to DeKalb county, Illinois, in 1836 from Naples, New York. The Jonathan and Lois Lyons family settling in DeKalb Township, where they resided until their death. Lois Battles Lyon died in February 1839 and Jonathan Lyon in April 1860." -submitted by Rev. Sycamore True Republican Newspaper: published the personal "Battle Diary" and documents of Capt. Jeremiah Battles, II. It is now in the DeKalb Co History Society, Illinois. The Joiner Family has in its possession Revoluntionary War documents of Capt. Jeremiah Battles, II "Diary" and the Military service records for seventy years. These were kept by the youngest sister, Lois Battles Lyon. Books and records given to the Joiner History Room in Sycamore, Illinois by our family (2008) upon the death of DeKalb Co Clerk, Ralph M. Joiner.
