Biography

Hannah was born around 1804 in the City of Bath, in the valley of the River Avon, Parish of Lyncombe and Widcombe, Somerset, England. She marries William Buckland on the 25 Decmeber 1827 at the Parish Church of Saint James (now closed), Lower Borough Walls, in the City of Bath, Somerset, England. The couple were both from the Parish of Lyncombe and Widcombe and were married by Banns by Vicar, Charles Crook and the witnesses were James (Burt) and Fanny (Smith)[1]. They had the following children (taken from FindMyPast Database):

  1. Mary Ann (bap. 7 December 1828. Residence: Ferry Place, Bath, Somerset)
  2. Emma (bap. 17 July 1831. Residence: Thames Terrace, Bath, Somerset)
  3. Silvanus "Sylvanus" Buckland
  4. William (bap. 17 June 1838. Residence: Princess Buildings, Bath, Somerset)

By 1839, she has had another child named Henry, born in 1839, but his birth is registered under her maiden name of "Batten". It isn't clear whether his father is William (Buckland) or Isaac (Warren). In 1841, we find Hannah living with her second "husband" Blacksmith, Isaac (Warren); her children Silvanus and Emma (Buckland); her and Isaac's son, Henry (Batten/Warren) and Isaac's children Charles, Mary, Emma, Fanny and Susan (Warren). They reside at Dills Court, in the City of Bath, Parish of Walcot, Somerset, England. It appears as if their mother, Hannah has remarried[2]. By 1851, most of the children have moved away from the family home and Isaac and Hannah live with daughter, Susan (Warren) at 4 Hettling Court, City of Bath, Parish of St. Peter & St. Paul, Somerset, England[3]. The couple are living at 29 Peter Street, in the City of Bath, Parish of St. James, in Somerset by 1861. The children have gone and they have taken on Lodgers, Henry and Caroline (Pritchard) and Charles and Maria (Ovens)[4].

However, by 1871, Hannah has lost her husband Isaac (Warren) and is living as a widow with her son Henry (Batten/Buckland); his wife Janet and their children Henry Joseph and Sarah (Buckland) at 26 Maidstone Place, in Shoreditch, Parish of St. Leonard Shoreditch, London & Middlesex, England[5]. In 1881, her grandson, Henry (Buckland) is living with her, along with Boarder, Frederick (Phillips) and Lodger, Ralph (Nathan) at 40 Westmoreland Place, Shoreditch, London & Middlesex, England[6]. On the 22 January 1885, Hannah passes away, at the age of 82, at 56 Great James Street, in Shoreditch, London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Middlesex & London, England[7]. Her burial takes place on the 23 January 1885 at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, Southern Grove, in the City of London, London Borough of Tower Hamlets, England[8].

Hannah's surname is Batten and not Batton as she signed her marriage record as Hannah Batten. Can you please change it for me?

Kind Regards

Kerrie
