William was born about 1770 in VA
Not much is known about his family except that William probably had at least 2 brothers (George & David), who were with him on the 1801 Tax List of Livingston County, KY (in NW KY on the Ohio River):
1. George Baty (born abt 1773-78; m April 7, 1802, Livingston Co., KY to Isabel Farsythe)
2. David Baty (born abt 1779-85; in 1801 he was age 16-20 and living in Livingston Co., KY. He m Neoma ? He died 1870-80 in McLennon Co, Texas).
[There was also a David Beatty (son of Wm Baty and Maria Gosch), b abt 1780 who married Emily Pickerill and had a son named Patrick. Wm’s parents were John Beatty & Susannah Ashfordby. John was born in Ireland in 1669.]
BUT William's father may have been Patrick Beatty -
When William Beatty/Baty m. Margaret Hazel in 1793 in Mercer County, KY, witnesses were Patrick Beatty and James & Mary (Beatty) McKenney. Mary was perhaps a sister of William's.
The 1793 marriage of William Baty & Margaret Hazel is listed in both Livingston Co & Mercer Co, KY.
On the marriage license, her father, Daniel Hazel, gave consent, June 8, 1793, Mercer Co, Ky. This means that she was not yet 18 and means that she was born after 1775.
Married by Rev. Kyle, Methodist minister.
Bride’s father: Daniel Hasel;
Teste: Patrick Batty.

1818 - his son Daniel H. married in Gallatin Co, KY
Margaret was abt 43 years old in 1819 when William Daniel was born. (but maybe he was a grandson?) She already had a son named Daniel H. (b 1795, m 1818) and a son named William Samuel (b 1816).
There is also a big gap in the ages of the children: Margaret, born 1803 & next child, Melinda, born 1813.
William died before 1823 IL.
They may have been in IL by 1813, but probably not. Grandson, John M. Goodwin said on the 1900 census that his mother was born (1813) in IL. By 1821 the family had moved to Pope Co., IL where some of the children married (Mary in 1823, George in 1823, Margaret in 1825). Mother, Margaret was listed there as a widow in 1825.
Margaret moved to Oregon Co., MO with her children by 1826.
In 1850 Margaret was living with her daughter, Matilda Dexter in Oregon Co., MO.
Margaret was abt 83 years old when she died near Thomasville after 1850.
