Sarah J Baucom was born about 1863 to Alvis Baucom.[1][2] Her gravestone indicates she was born on 5 Nov 1862.[3] Neither her marriage license nor her death certificate includes a mother's name. Her marriage license (1888) indicates her mother is deceased.[1][4] According to Jo Ann Stevenson in a profile about Alvis, Sarah was the last child born alive to Alvis and Josephine (Long) Baucom.[5] Her older brother James' 1922 obituary also implies that Josephine is her mother when it identifies her as a sister and other of his siblings with the designation "half."[6]
She was enumerated with Alvis Baucom on the 1870 Census[7] and on the 1880 Census[8] in Union County, North Carolina,
Sarah married George I Hagler on 11 January 1888 at J B Tarleton's in Goose Creek, Union County, North Carolina.[1]
She died on 8 March 1940 in New Salem, Union County, North Carolina, and was buried in the cemetery at Long's Grove Advent Christian Church in Monroe, Union County.[4][3]
