Biography

Johann Georg Bauer was born and baptized on 13 October 1807 in Ermershausen, Haßberge.

He was the second son of the innkeeper Georg Bauer. His mother was Maria Eva Anders from Bettstadt. His godparents were Johann Georg Anders and Johann Nicolaus Anders.

For 27 years, Johann Georg's father owned the inn "The Golden Swan". In 1835, his father gave the inn to his first son and bought a farm (the Knauer farm, also known as house 51). The farm was located near the village church. Johann Georg, lived with his father on the farm until he died.

As reported by Philip Pfeiffer, a document dated 30 July 1846 states that Johann Georg Bauer acknowledged being the father of three children with Anna Margaretha Pfeiffer. It said that they were unable to marry because he had lost his hearing due to illness. His deafness and poor health prevented him from supporting himself and a family.

On 21 April 1853, the children received 325 guldin (florins) from Georg Bauer.

Johann Georg died in Emershausen of "apoplexy" at the age of 63 about 1pm on 12 August 1871. He was buried there two days later on 14 August at 1pm. The church Sterbe-Register described him as the dependant son (hinterlassenen Sohn) of the local innkeeper, F. Gg. Bauer.
