Mr. Baughman, 86 Dies in Aubrey; Services Pending

AUBREY (staff) - Mr. Amos Walter Baughman, 85, died Saturday morning at this home in Aubrey following a three-year illness. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. C. W. Henson and the Rev. O. R. Looper. There will be a Mosonic service and pallbearers will be members of Collinsville Masonic Lodge No. 433. Time and date of services are pending. Son of the late John and Lou Baughman, he was born October 3, 1871, In Harrison, Arkansas. He married Miss Saphrona Buie in 1890 in Arkansas. After her death in 1901, he married Miss Claudia Lazarus in 1902, also of Arkansas. Mr. Baughman first came to Texas in 1895 in a covered wagon and lived about three years near Ft. Worth. He returned to Arkansas and came to Texas again in 1925. He had since lived in Collinsville and Aubrey. He was a Baptist and Mason. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Albie Parker Baughman of Tioga, Amos Templeton Baughman of Azle, John R. Baughman of Fort Worth and Perry Baughman of Victoria; three daughters, Mrs. Stella Bush of Collinsville, Mrs. Opal Lawrence of Fort Worth and Miss Jewel Baughman of Valparaiso, Flordia; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

1958 - Pilot Point - A.W. Baughman, 86, retired farmer and former resident of Collinsville, died Saturday at his home in Aubrey. Time of funeral services is pending at Beck Funeral Home here. Services will be conducted at the Aubrey Baptist Church. Collinsville Masons will conduct a graveside service. Mr. Baughman was a native of Arkansas and was a member of the Aubrey Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife; four sons, A.P. Baughman of Tioga, A.T. of Azle, John R. of Fort Worth and Perry of Victoria; three daughters, Mrs. W.F. Bush of Collinsville, Mrs. Lee Lawrence of Fort Worth and Miss Jewell Baughman of Valpariaso, Fla; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

The obituary above of my Great-Grandfather was sent to me today 1/8/2013 from a Cousin Cass Reasor, I think you so much.

What I am going to write this from my memory of stories my mother Luvena Baughman McKnight told me and as I have gotten older I find that I wish I had written them down as time has faded them. Mother had a picture of my Great-Grandfather and family when they stopped to visit after they left Arkansas in the early 1920's I think. My Grandparents Albie and Martha Baughman lived in Texas. When Amos and family left Arkansas they were on their way to New Mexico to a ranch or farm they had bought there, sight unseen, upon their arrival they discovered the property had been very misrepresented and they found it to have only a dug-out to live in and very little else. They tried to make improvements for awhile but it was too far from water and little grass for the cattle. It was not long before they gave up and moved to Texas....Amos Wallter farmed for many years in the Green Valley area in Denton County, Texas and after retirement he moved into Aubrey, Texas and lived there for the rest of his years...The things I remember about him and my step-g-grandmother are they had a beautiful yard and a porch swing which I loved, that was a big deal for me as a child...they also had a large orchard and he still stood on a ladder when he was in his 90's to prune the limbs of his trees...And my great-grandmother always had home made cookies that she had just baked...

Amos was frist married to (Sarah or Safronia) Adelle Buie born: May, 3, 1870 and died April 16, 1900 (my Mother thinks she was buried in the Green Forest Cemetery 20 miles West of Harrison Arkansas on Highway 62) and she was the mother of the following children; 1. Albie Parker Baughman b: 11 JUL 1891 in Boone Co, AR 2. Stella Estata Baughman b: 08 JUN 1892 in Boone Co, AR 3. Verna Alice Baughman b: 28 JUN 1897 in Boone Co, AR 4. George Fred Baughman b: 28 JUL 1895 in Boone Co, AR
