Obituaries

THE KICK WAS FATAL.
John Baumann, of Riley township, died Monday evening at 5 o'clock, the result of his injuries sustained one day last week when he was kicked in the groin by a horse.
As exclusively stated in the NEWS Monday there was but one chance for the recovery of the injured man and that was an operation. Dr. Gillette, of Toledo, came to Fremont and performed the difficult operation, removing fourteen inches of the intestines. At one place the bowels were found to be cut in two by the force of the kick. The injuries were too serious for the one chance to do any good and Mr. Baumann died as above stated at 5 o'clock.
The deceased was nearly 58 years of age and was born in Switzerland. He came to this country early in life and for many years was a respected farmer of Riley township. He leaves a wife and 10 children. The funeral services will be held at the late residence Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W.A. Bowman. Interment in the Shaker cemetery. Mr. Baumann was a member of Grace Lutheran church.[2]
