Biography

Ephraim Baumgartner was born in Pennsylvania.
Ephraim Baumgartner has German Roots.

Ephraim, son of Samuel Baumgardner and Eliza Rabenstine,[1][2] was born 20 September 1861 in Heidelberg Township, York County, Pennsylvania.[1][2] His parents had him baptized in Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church in Hanover, York County, on 18 November 1861.[1]

Ephraim Baumgartner was an Illinoisan.

By 1870, eight-year-old Ephraim R. had relocated to Woodland Township, Fulton County, Illinois, with his parents Sam (age 50, carpenter) and Eliza Bumgardner [sic] (41), and siblings John Louis (24, works farm), Jacob William (21, carpenter), Samuel E. (19, works farm), Elias (17, works farm), Elizabeth (16), Charles Edward (14), Eliza Jane (10), Mandilla Delilah "Amanda" (6) and Emery Elsworth Baumgartner (3), as well as Valentine Yakely (20, carpenter). [3]

In 1880, the family including Samuel (age 59, farmer) and Eliza Baumgardner (51), their children Ephraim (19), Manda D. (16), Emery (13), Samuel (29), and grandchildren Nora M. (6) and John Baumgardner (3) remained in Woodland Township.[4]

On 26 January 1882 in Fulton County, he married Eliza A. Stever with whom he had three children:

  1. Gertrude (Baumgartner) Underhill (b. 16 August 1882;[5] m. Herman Victor Underhill;[6][7] d. 30 March 1971).[5][8]
  2. Lute Baumgartner (b. 3 September 1884;[9][10] m. Edna Pfaff;[11][12] d. May 1966).[10][13]
  3. Ross Baumgartner (b. 20 June 1886;[14][15] m. Margaret Little;[citation needed] d. 20 April 1980).[14][16]

In 1900, Ephram (age 39, teamster) and Eliza Baumgartner (38, mother of three) rented a farm in Woodland Township, where they lived with their children Gertrude (18), Lute (16) and Ross Baumgartner (14).[17]

By 1910, Ephfrem (age 48, factory worker) and Eliza Baumgarner [sic] (46, mother of three) had purchased a house at 548 East Price Street in Canton, Fulton County, Illinois.[18]

Ephraim (age 57, bench worker at a plow shop) and Eliza Baumgartner (56) had relocated to a rental property at 1834-1/2 15th Street in Moline, Rock Island County, Illinois, before 1920.[19]

He died 11 September 1923 in Moline at age 61[2] and was buried there 14 September 1923 at Riverside Cemetery.[20]
