Biography

John Thurman Bausell was born on February 15, 1862 in Browning, Linn County, Missouri. He was the son of John Bausell and Nancy Fuller.

Following the death of his parents (father in 1861, mother's death after February, 1862), John Thurman Bausell lived with his sister's (Rebecca Jane "Becky" Bausell) husband's James Knox Polk Knifong sister, Missouri Ann Knifong and her husband Thomas Adams Williams.

In June, 1870, John Thurman Bausell was living with Missouri Ann Knifong & Thomas Adams Williams, who were his sister's (Rebecca Jane "Becky" Bausell) husband's James Knox Polk Knifong sister and her husband. Enumerated in the household were:

In June, 1880, John Thurman Bausell, when he was 18 years old, was working on the farm of his brother George Flem Bausell and his wife Martha Jane Knifong in Pleasant Hill Township in Sullivan County, Missouri.

John Thurman Bausell married Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" Lawrence in about 1885. There is no record of a marriage, except a mention in her obituary (see below). Their only child, John Thurman Bausell, Jr., was born on July 22, 1886 in Cora, Pleasant Hill Township, Sullivan County, Missouri. In December, 1887, she married John F. Colyer. The son, John Thurman Bausell, Jr.'s death certificate lists his parents as John Thurman Bausell and Margaret Elizabeth Lawrence, as does his Social Security application.

In June, 1900, John Thurman Bausell, 38 years old, was living with his sister Mary Adaline Bausell and her husband John William Shaw in Pleasant Hill Township in Sullivan County, Missouri.

In May, 1910, John Thurman Bausell was farming on a rented farm in Polk Township in Sullivan County, Missouri. He was 48 years old.

John Thurman Bausell died on May 9, 1914 in Polk Township in Sullivan County, Missouri. He was 52 years old. The cause of death was suicide by poison - he ingested carbolic acid. He was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery in Pleasant Hill Township in Sullivan County, Missouri.
