Biography

John, son of George Handyside Baxter (~1791 - ) and Janet Milne, was born on 14th August 1822 and baptised on the 14th August 1822 in Dundee, Forfarshire (Angus), Scotland. ^{[1] [2]}

In the 1841 census John (age 15) was in Buckle Maker Wynd, Dundee, Forfarshire (Angus), Scotland.^[3]

John married Margaret Christie Todd on the 5th June 1844 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland.^[4]

In the 1851 census John (age 28), Clerk To Commission Agenter Filcox, was at 81 Buckle M W, Dundee, Angus.^[5]

John was included in the Sandemanian Church in Dundee, Scotland membership list as at September 1855 and shown as a Deacon .

In the 1861 census I (age 38), Flax Merchant, was in Mcdow Place, Dundee, Angus.^[6]

In the 1871 census John (age 48), Minister of Glasite Church & baltic merchant, was the married head of household at 72 Ferry Road, Dundee, St Andrew, Forfarshire (Angus), Scotland.^[7]

John died on the 3rd February 1876 in Dundee, Scotland. His estate passed to Crichton Milne Baxter his brother a manufacturer, Charles Ross Baxter his cousin a wholesale grocer, Walter Baxter his son-in-law a solicitor, and to Charles Philip (abt.1810-), a calenderer, all of whom were in Dundee.^[8]
