Additional information found in McClung Library, Knoxville TN: Private, John P Lynch's (Tennessee) Battery. Enrolled April 29, 1862 at Cocke County by William Garner for 3 years or "War". June 30, 1863 to April 30, 1864. Muster at Carter's Station, Tennessee dated September 19, 1864.*Served as a member of the River Defense artillery on the bluffs at Vicksburg. On a Roll of POW's (from the artillery commands) refusing to sign Paroles, Vicksburg. Subsequently paroled at the Marine Hospital by Lt. Col. WP Davis. Sent as a prisoner returning to the lines after surrender and parole to Memphis, then to Gratiot Street Prison, St Louis, Missouri on August 3, 1863. Forwarded to Camp Morton, Indiana on August 26, 1863. Name listed on Roll as having died of pneumonia and buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in grave 520, Indianapolis, Indiana.
