From Kentucky. Mother of E.K. Alsip.

Sacramento Daily Union, Volume 86, Number 121, 10 January 1894: "A GOOD LADY GONE. Unexpected Death Yesterday of Mrs. Mary A. Alsip.

Many friends of Mrs. Mary A. Alsip, mother of Edwin K. Alsip, were greatly shocked yesterday afternoon on learning that the good lady had died suddenly in her room at the Mansion House on Seventh street.

Mrs. Alsip was quite old and feeble, but was thought to be in fairly good health for one of her advanced years. It was only a few hours before her demise that she conversed with her landlady, and talked of going out for a walk.

Deceased had lived for many years in this city, and leaves a wide circle of friends to mourn her death. She was a lady of broad intelligence and culture, and one whose counsels were sought by scores of friends and neighbors. Her memory will long be cherished by all who were so fortunate as to know her well.

Mr. Alsip was apprized of his mother's death in time to come to the city by the first afternoon train from San Francisco. He is accompanied by Mrs. Alsip on his sad mission.

The deceased lady was 77 years of age and a native of Kentucky. The funeral will take place Thursday at 11 a. m. from the Westminster Presbyterian Church, the interment being private."
