Biography

Finley was born in 1876. He is the son of David Baxter and Mary Russell. Three birth dates are recorded - 15 March WWI Draft, and 18 March Civil Marriage, 17 March DEATH RECORD/FAG.

Finley may be Unnamed Baxter Male sourced from Birth record born 11 April 1875. 1876 may be his Baptism year. No additional birth records were sourced for Mary and David Baxter.

No Ireland Birth record was sourced with the name Finley Baxter.

He was 20 years old when he emigrated to America in 1895 on board the ship Kensington. Finley was on his way to his brother in Philadelphia. He was accompanied on the voyage by his cousin Rebecca J Russell Russell-24018 aged 18. She also gave her point of contact as Robert Baxter as 1026 Sth 22nd Street, Phila.

Finley and Rebecca made their way to Philadelphia. Finley lived with Robert and his family at the time of the 1900 Census. His cousin Rebecca moved to Montgomery and was employed as a servant for the Mattison family.

He first worked as a Teamster and lived at 52nd & Chester Ave, West Phila.

Finley Baxter and Agnes Knox previously of Monaghan, Ireland applied for a marriage license 3 June 1902 and were married the next day.

They settled in the same Ward as his brother Robert and Finley farmed on his own account as a Market Gardener.

Three children were born before 1910, Margaret about 1905. Russell 1909, Myrtle about 1913.

He registered in 1917-1918 WWI Draft.

Finlay Baxter died in 1945 aged 68 and was buried at Mt Moriah Cemetery. Agnes (Knox) Baxter was present and informant of his death.
