Biography

Jane was born in 1845. She was the daughter of Matthew Baxter and Mary Stewart.

Jane emigrated to America about 1866 and settled in Philadelphia.

On June 26 1867 Jane married John Moore in the 4th United Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia. Andrew Gordon and Louisa Gordon were their witnesses. John was the son of Robert Moore and Ellen Hunter.

They had 11 known children in their marriage. Jane, Jane, Robert B, Mary, John B, George S, Jane, Elisabeth Dooley (Bessie), William S, Rebecca G and Margaret L.

Their daughter Jane died on 7 December 1868 aged 1.^[2] A second daughter Jane was born in 1869.^[3] George S Moore born 19 Feb 1876.^[4]

Elisabeth Dooley Moore was born 10 April 1880 and baptised at the 4th United Presbyterian Church on 6 October. ^[5]

In the 1910 Census, Jane and John have 3 young grandchildren living with them, Ethel, John and May. Could these be Mary Moore's children? No further records sourced for Mary Moore.

Jane was widowed when John Moore died in 1912 aged 84. At the time of the 1920 Census, Jane now 73 has 3 of the children now living with her, Robert aged 50, Rebecca 31 and Margaret aged 25.

Jane (Baxter) Moore passed away in 1935 aged 84 at 707 S 51st Street, Philadelphia and is buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery. Retta (Margaret) Moore was the informant of her death.
