Biography

John was born about 1838. He was the son of David Baxter and Sarah Hamilton.

In 1864 he married Catherine Shirlow at the Convoy Meeting House. Catherine Shirlow was a Minor at the time of her marriage. William Shirlow and James Gallagher stood as their witnesses.

Soon after their marriage John and Catherine emigrated to Australia and settled in Victoria. Ten children were born in their marriage.

John was widowed when Catherine died in 1889. He remarried in 1892 to Rebecca Dealy/Deely. Five children were born in his second marriage. Rebecca passed away in 1904 and John married for a third time to Isabella (Callen) McIntosh on 6 February 1907 but they divorced 3 years later.[1]

John Baxter passed away in 1913 aged 74.
