Mr. Bayer worked in the construction industry for 37 years, as a self-employed carpenter and also worked for various contractors. He was a member of the Old German Baptist Church, Antietam Congregation near Waynesboro and the Pennsylvania Builders Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Susan M. Jamison, Oakdale, Calif., Shirley J. Bayer, Hagerstown, Md., Diane L. Mohler, Covington, Ohio, Janet E. Hess, Chambersburg, Pa.; one son, Vernon C. Bayer, Waynesboro; 12 grandchildren; five sisters, Elizabeth Bayer, Julia Benedict, Esther Bayer, all of Waynesboro, Nora Boone, Rocky Mount, Va., Frances King, Hagerstown, Md.; five brothers, John Bayer, Chambersburg, Pa., Harlan Bayer, Waynesboro, Daniel Bayer, Roanoke, Va., Samuel Bayer, Hagerstown, Md., Kenneth Bayer, Wirtz, Va., and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Joe Bayer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2000 in the Old German Baptist Church, Antietam Congregation.
