David Bayley was born in about 1809 in Little Lever, Lancashire.
David married Charlotte Massey on 1 Jan 1826 in Stockport. David was a carter, Charlotte a spinster; both were of the local parish, and unable to sign their names. The witnesses were John Walker and John Wood.
Their son John Bayley was born in about 1827 at St Mary the Virgin Church in Eccles, Lancashire. He was christened on 15 Jul 1827 in Eccles.[1] His father's occupation was given as labourer, and the family's address as Salford.[2]
On 31 Aug 1835, David was one of the two witnesses at the marriage of his wife's sister Mary Massey to William Turner at Manchester Cathedral.
Their daughter Nancy Bayley was born in about 1837 in Lancashire. She was christened on 6 Aug 1837 at St Elphin's Church in Warrington.[3] Her father's occupation was given as labourer, and the family's address as Manchester.
Their son Peter Price Bayley was born in about 1840 in Lancashire. He was christened on 18 Oct 1840 at St Mary the Virgin Church in Eccles, Lancashire.[4] His father's occupation was given as waterman, and the family's address as Pendleton.[5]
By June 6th 1841, David and Charlotte were living in Cow Lane, Salford with their three children John (aged 14), Nancy (3) and baby Peter (8 months). David's occupation was recorded as wat[er] man.
Their daughter Mary Bayley was born in about 1843 in Manchester. She was christened on 26 Mar 1843 at St Mary the Virgin Church in Eccles, Lancashire. Her father's occupation was given as waterman, and the family's address as Pendleton.[6]
By April 7th 1861, David and Charlotte were living in Guests Row, Astley, Lancashire (in Leigh district). David was a boatman. With them were their daughter Mary, aged 18, who was employed as a silk weaver, and their granddaughter Mary Bailey, aged 12 (and born in Runcorn, Cheshire).
By April 2nd 1871, Charlotte was 66 and living in Astley, Lancashire Her occupation was recorded as boat woman. She was married, but her husband wasn't in the household on census night.
By April 3rd 1881, Charlotte was 76. She was widowed, and living alone in Astley.
Charlotte died in 1883 in Leigh district; her age was recorded as 75.
The only possible match I could find for any of the family in 1851 was a Mary Bailey with no family members listed with her.[7]
Could not find David in the censuses after 1861.
