Death of Mrs. Bayly Last Week Everybody knows that the "Voice" has no "Personal Column." But we cannot possibly allow the death of such a woman as the late Mrs. Harriett Louisa Bayly, which occurred at Runnymede, New Town, on Sunday last, to pass without a tribute of profound respect to her memory. This deceased lady did noble work, and was the devoted President of the Hobart Branch of the Women's International League; for Peace and Freedom from its inception up to the very day of her death. She had a disposition that endeared her to all, abilities of a high order, and all those qualities of courage and capacity which mean so much in the sacred crusade for peace. She sought no publicity, but worked steadily, quietly and with tireless energy for one of the greatest ideals in the world to-day, and was an unfailing source of inspiration and strength to all associated with her. Flowers on her grave will fade and perish, and these few poor words in print will also pass, but what she did lives on and will not pass. It is interesting to note here that the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom is now one of the most widespread organisations in the world, with most important affiliations in all countries. The late Mrs. Bayly was 69 years of age when she died. She was the widow of the late Mr. H. V. Bayly and a daughter of the late Captain James Bayley.[6]
