Biography

Elizabeth Bayley was born about February 1833 in Appledore, and was baptised February 24, 1833 at the Northam parish church of St. Margaret in Northam, Devon, England. She was the daughter of John Bayley, Mariner of Appledore and his wife, Elizabeth.^[1]

Elizabeth Bailey was married to William Evans by banns at St. Michael's Church in Rushall, Staffordshire on Monday, 20 Apr 1863 by Ludwick Thomas Charasse, Vicar. William signed his name, and Elizabeth made her mark. Witnesses to the wedding were William's brother, Richard Evans (signed), and Ann Morgan (signed). At the time of the marriage, Elizabeth was 26 years old, and had been a servant. Her father, John Bailey was deceased, and was recorded as a sailor.^[2]

Elizabeth Evans, 77 years old, died of old age and bronchitis on April 24, 1910 at her home, 19 Orlando Street, Walsall. Her daughter, Ann was present at the death.^[3]

• April 2, 1871: Elizabeth Evans, age 32, was living at 1d Newhall Street, Walsall, Staffordshire with her husband, William, and their children, John, Robert, Ann and Richard.^[9]

• April 3, 1881: Elizabeth Evans, age 47 years, married, was living at 45 Eldon Street, Walsall in the household of her husband, William Evans, along with their children, John, Robert, Annie and Richard.^[10]

• April 5, 1891: Residing at 44 Orlando street in Walsall, were Elizabeth Evans, widow, age 58 years, and her sons, John, Robert and Richard.^[11]

• March 31, 1901: Elizabeth Evans, age 68 years, born W Appledore, N Devon was head of the household at 35 Vicarage street, Walsall, Staffordshire. Residing in her household were her son, Richard Evans, age 30 years, and a lodger named Joseph Bould, age 38 years.^[12]
