Biography

William Butterworth Bayley was born on the 30th November 1781 in Manchester, the son of Thomas Butterworth, Esq. and Mary, his wife, of the village of Hope near Manchester.[1][2]
Mr. Bayley's posts in India included: Chief Secretary to the Government of India (1819); Member of Council, Hon. East India Company (H.E.I.C.) (1825); Officiating Governor-General of India (1828); Director and Chairman, H.E.I.C. (1834–1858).[1][3]
On the 18th January 1809, Mr. Bayley married Anne Augusta Jackson in India.[4]
William Butterworth Bayley died at St Leonards-on-Sea in Sussex, on the 29th May 1860, aged seventy-eight years.[1][5][6]
