Biography

Born

George Baylis was born c. 1795. in Studley Park, Warwickshire, England [1] [2]

George started out as a Tallow Chandler (one who makes and sells Tallow Candles) [3]

Marriage

He married Ann Bourne on 10 December 1816. [4] They are married in St George's Church, one small block south of Hanover Square, near Oxford Circus, London, England. Because of its location, St George's was later to became a popular venue for society weddings. [5]

1819 - The couple are living in St Georges, Pimlico, Middlesex, England, near the Church, where they married. It is described at this time as a 'district of public gardens much frequented on holidays.' Pimlico being on the road to Hoxton where the gardens were actually situated. [6] It was here that Ann gave birth to their first child, a son, George Henry Baylis.

In 1824 in Newington St Mary, Surrey, England, Anne gave birth to a daughter,Anne Baylis.

By 1851 George had changed his occupation and become a Grocer & Cheesemonger. He is living in Uxbridge St, St Mary Newington, Surrey, England with his wife, and 19 year old son John Bourne Baylis.[7]

They had a large family.

Research

George Baylis birthdate is a BRICK WALL - The 1841 Census says 1796 in Middlesex, but we know the 1841 Census was not always accurate. The 1851 Census has his birthplace as 1795, Studley Park, Warwickshire. Studley Park was a Deer Park, attached to Old Studley Castle which is a medieval site, there was a village of Studley nearby but it reads Studley Park? So I have no idea as to his parentage.
